Sentinel Olympic

by Dan @ Get in The Water!

... or the race that almost wasn't. I signed up for the Sentinel tri in Santa Cruz a couple of months ago based on a suggestion from a friend. There were 6 of us planning to do this race and 5 dropped out. Oh well, a fun training day anyways.

Got up at 4 am so I could get some coffee in me and see my way to "clear". Loaded the Pilot then ...

Getting my masters @ Stanford

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman Continues

Well, not really. After a year and a half of thinking about it, I went to a Stanford Masters swim workout today. It wasn't as scary as I had anticipated. I emailed the coach ahead of time with some questions/concerns, and he was great. He even offered to come over to my building and walk me to the workout! (Of course when I tried to take him up on it, I found out he ...

A LOT HAPPENS IN 10 MONTHS

by Beverly @ Beverly's Adventures in Ironland

Cancer is horrible. It is particularly horrible when it strikes those we love. Since starting this journey in October, my friend Al died of leukemia in April. Last month my friend Paola was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double masectomy yesterday. Then this month, my director and mentor for over 16 years, Joan, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I am dedicating my race to all of them. It is unbelievably ...

Marathon Training: Week One Two

by Mike W. @ It's Not Over 'Til You're Underground

Kickoff for the Fall Run season was about two weeks ago. Kickoff is always fun to feel the nervous energy in the room... Little did I know that so much of it would be coming from the run-team staff. We signed up at least 7 of the Peninsula staff to join the Ironteam in 2007!

The day after Kickoff, we (the Ironteam coaches) made an early-morning trip up to Santa Rosa ...

A Conversation…

by Mike W. @ It's Not Over 'Til You're Underground

Me: Guess what! I’ve joined Team In Training and am training for my first marathon: The Honolulu Marathon, on December 10th, 2006. I’ve committed to raising $4000 to fight blood cancers. You: Wait a minute… I’ve heard this before. You’ve sent me TNT fundraising letters in the past. Haven’t you done an Ironman? Me: Uh, yeah. Five actually. You: And doesn’t an Ironman contain a marathon? Me: Well, yeah. Ok, ok. ...

Ironman USA race report - it’s LONG!

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Those of you who read my 2004 race report from Ironman Canada know that with pictures, it was 14 pages long. The events leading up to the start of Ironman USA were so absurd (and unanticipated) that it took me quite a few pages just to GET to Sunday. If you just want to read about the race, go to page 9. But believe me….you really won’t believe what the Ironteam went through unless you ...

I’m alive

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Sleeping 14 hrs a day, but alive.... and only $2 more to go to beat $10,000! Anyone have $2???

Thanks for the many well wishes. My race report is forthcoming - we had such an ordeal actually getting to Lake Placid that the race actually somewhat paled in comparison (though not by much).

In the meantime, here's a view of the swim start. Pretty freaking scary:

But actually much less scary ...
