Ironman Canada 2007

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

A year of preparation and today was finally the day! It is hard to even try to put in day into words, the anticipation, excitement, fear and yes plenty of Gatorade.
I while managed to sleep a fair number of hours, I was restless with anxiety mainly of over sleeping and not the actual race. I awoke 4:15am and gather up all my ...

It’s tomorrow!

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

I thought there would be plenty of time get everything done, but sure enough things happen and I'm off a nicely organized schedule. Firstly my bike was making a awful squeaking sound which surely would made all the participants in race take notice and get out of my way, while it had that benefit it was caused by the wheel rubbing against the frame. ...

Pre-Race Activities

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

Today there was much to do and still tired from yesterday's traveling it felt like it was going to be a long day. First the team meet up for a run down of the schedule: Race Packet pick-up, Bike Pick-up, a quick ride, a quick swim, quick run, team photo and athletes pasta dinner.

1 month to go to Ironman Canada

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

It is frighteningly close now, the past month has been good and completing Vineman without any issues on the run was definitely a confidence builder. Still one big training hurdle to overcome, "The Triple Brick", on this coming Sunday I have a 9hour workout which includes 2hrs of cycling and 1hr of running, repeat three times :-)

2 Months to Ironman Canada

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

The past month of training has given me more confidence in completing Ironman. Although my haven't attempted any long runs yet, it feels good to hit the 5 mile mark again without any issue. It has been a great month for riding, everything from the beauty of Lake Tahoe to the torture of Lake Berryessa :-) Still 2 months seems a little soon, any possibility of pushing out this ...

3 months to Ironman Canada

by Nick @ "The last crazy thing I did"

It seems far to close now! We have entered final phase of training the "Race Phase". This past month has been busy more long rides, some good swim and not forgetting Wildflower. I do feel somewhat disheartened that I'm not back to full running form yet but I'm getting there.
