Getting my masters @ Stanford

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman Continues

Well, not really. After a year and a half of thinking about it, I went to a Stanford Masters swim workout today. It wasn't as scary as I had anticipated. I emailed the coach ahead of time with some questions/concerns, and he was great. He even offered to come over to my building and walk me to the workout! (Of course when I tried to take him up on it, I found out he ...

Ironman USA race report - it’s LONG!

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Those of you who read my 2004 race report from Ironman Canada know that with pictures, it was 14 pages long. The events leading up to the start of Ironman USA were so absurd (and unanticipated) that it took me quite a few pages just to GET to Sunday. If you just want to read about the race, go to page 9. But believe me….you really won’t believe what the Ironteam went through unless you ...

I’m alive

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Sleeping 14 hrs a day, but alive.... and only $2 more to go to beat $10,000! Anyone have $2???

Thanks for the many well wishes. My race report is forthcoming - we had such an ordeal actually getting to Lake Placid that the race actually somewhat paled in comparison (though not by much).

In the meantime, here's a view of the swim start. Pretty freaking scary:

But actually much less scary ...

IronMo Update #7 - The Race is On

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

It's here! After many months of training, this Sunday I’ll toe the line at Ironman USA. Since I began my journey towards my second Ironman last October, I’ve swum over 130,000 yards, ridden my bike 1,600 miles, and run over 800. I’ve lifted weights for 50 hours. I’ve run one marathon in New York City and another in Napa County. I’ve eaten more than I care to recount, and cried more often than I ...

I hate taper

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

In theory, taper is great. In reality, it is awful.

You're not working out so much, so you have time. But you can't go out and do anything, for fear of getting sick, injured, or too tired (not to mention you're not drinking, and are watching what you eat. That's fun for everyone.). Your workouts are short, but you feel terrible during them, because your muscles are accustomed to working out for 2-3 or more ...

Saying goodbye to Sammy

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Who is Sammy? I've been riding a nameless bike for over two months. The too-small new road bike from March was going to be named Robbie, but I had to give him back. Last night, I was at Sports Basement to say goodbye to my new new road bike, as we handed them over to Tri Bike Transport for (duh) transport to NY. I couldn't say goodbye to a bike with no name - ...

New Tires, Part Deux

by IronMo @ IronMo Returns: The Road to Ironman USA

Sat 7/8 - Woke up early (seriously, do I need to say that? Probably not), still feeling a little sore and congested, but not all that bad. Due to meet Heather at 8 to put new tires on her bike, then ride our silly little taper workout. Except. I forgot it was Time Trial day for the Tour, and that clearly takes precedence. Which it did.

By the time the (turned out to be ...
