Coaches Message: IronWeek #18
Team,
This weekend was a perfect example of why it’s great to train in the Bay Area, and to do it with IronTeam. Two nice and dry days. Saturday’s ride allowed us to work on some long sustained climbs and go down a very technical descent. Sunday’s swim was 3000 for group 1, 3400 for group 2 and 3800 for group 3. Or 1.7 miles, 1.9 miles and 2.1 miles. And you got to do some fun kicking also!
Looking back at this weekend, you did close to a half Ironman. Granted the order was wrong, and there was a break in the middle. But the swim was well over a mile, the bike was about just under 56, and the run was at 11. And while folks were definitely tired, there was never a concern that you couldn’t do it. As coaches, it’s great to see how far you’ve all come in the 5 months since we started. Keep up the good work!
Race planning is all about experimentation. Keep a log and try new things. Which brings us to our Halfway to Ironman Wildflower training weekend. This training weekend will be a great time to practice your nutrition, practice your transitions and also a great opportunity to work on your pacing for all three disciplines. A very good way to plan all of this is to write a race plan. Attached is an example you can modify for yourself. Please create your plan and send it to the coaches. If you have any questions - ask us!
We are still looking for volunteers for SAG, water stops and other duties. Please let Coach Ann or Franny know if you have friends or family willing to help out.
Look for another email this week with more details about the training weekend.
Re-commitment is this Thursday March 11 - the rest of the build phase schedule will be out to you following this date.
Here are the coached workouts for the week:
Wed: 6:30 PM - Track De Anza - bring $2 for parking
Sun: 8:00 am - Open water swim/13 mile run - Gull Park Foster City
Stay strong, go long, and write your race plan…
Your coaches,
Ann, Ron and Dan
