Insanity
by Frank B @ Get in the game
So, what do you do when you hit that mid life crises phase and you start to wonder what this is really all about? You sign up to do an Ironman of course! So you call Team in Training (TNT), sign up to be a participant and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and train for thousands of crazy hours over the next 10 months. Then you swim 2.4 miles, bike 112, then run 26.2 and somewhere out on the course you'll have some sort of epiphany and it will all suddenly become perfectly clear for you....right?
Well, let's just say I tried that route, and while I did change my life dramatically after doing the Ironman USA in July 2007 by quitting my job and going to law school, I never did have that epiphany I was hoping for. Additionally, I decided I didn't much care for law school, so now I have no job and am not going to school, so I sit around more often than before trying to figure out what this thing called life is really all about! Sadly all I've figured out over the past couple of months is that I really really really like to eat pizza, and it is scarily easy to become addicted to watching television when you have nothing else to do! So, before I become a prime candidate to compete on the Biggest Loser weight loss show, I think it's time to put down the remote control and step away from the pizza box. But how and for what reason?
It has been said that the definition of insanity is to repeat the same behavior, yet expect different results. Well, label me loco, but I'm back with TNT and the Ironman '08 season starts today! Yes, somewhere between here and the 140.6 miles that I'll cover next summer either at Vineman or maybe Ironman Canada, I plan on having some sort of epiphany and figuring it all out. Stay tuned and I'll let you know what I find out!
